Education majors at UP may combine a teaching degree with a second major and minor to enhance their teaching practice and broaden their career options. Undergraduate Programs The Department of Mathematics offers three programs leading to degrees in mathematics. Mathematics, BA The BA degree is intended for students who want students who are also interested in humanities Mathematics, BS The BS degree is intended for the general mathematics student as well as those interested in physical science, computer science, or engineering Applied degree is intended for students who want an in-depth mathematical training in preparation for a professional career in mathematics or a closely related field.

In particular, students planning to attend graduate school in mathematics, applied math or a mathematically intensive scientific field should strongly consider the B.

Students are brought together several times in the course of their undergraduate work: in the University's core curriculum courses, in environmental science courses, laboratories, and field trips, and in a senior capstone seminar which involves case studies and team-approach problem-solving in regional environmental issues.
